This Fellowship is generously funded by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
OVERVIEW
The DSA Genomics Fellowship was recently established as a partnership between Buffalo State College and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. This fellowship seeks to increase the pool of genomic data scientists with an emphasis on increasing the diversity of professionals working in this field.
This 15 month fellowship will be located in Buffalo, New York. Remote participation will not be considered as students must complete their stipend-supported research on-site at Roswell Park. Each fellow will complete 30 credits of coursework (See curriculum here) at Buffalo State College. In addition, each fellow will complete part-time research during the Fall and Spring semesters and full-time research for 12 weeks during the Summer at Roswell Park.
OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the fellowship are to help increase the:
- Number of graduate students who earn degrees in genomics data science.
- Diversity of professionals working in genomics data science in business, industry, government, and academia.
- Diversity of the graduate student population in life sciences disciplines at Buffalo State College.
To accomplish these objectives, highly capable graduate students are selected to receive the Focus in Genomics fellowship where they will receive a tuition scholarship and a stipend and will participate in an intensive internship experience with our partners at Roswell Park.
FELLOWSHIP EXPECTATIONS
Students must commit to spend the stipend-supported research hours on-site including part-time during the Fall and Spring semester and full-time for 12 weeks during 1 Summer.
Students must maintain good-standing with an average GPA of a 3.0/4.0 or above.
FELLOWSHIP COMPENSATION
- Tuition and fees will be covered for 30 credit hrs
- $17,250 to be paid over the full program (3 semesters + 1 summer)
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Applicant must be accepted into the Buffalo State DSA program.
- Applicant must have the time to commit to the program. Students will be expected to complete a Summer internship where they will be required to work a full 8-hour day for 12 weeks.
- We strongly encourage students whose backgrounds encompass diversity to apply.
