The Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics (DSA) 4+1 pathway allows students to complete course requirements for their bachelor’s degree while taking select graduate-level coursework during their undergraduate study. The DSA track is a Professional Science Master’s (PSM) affiliated program which means that it incorporates coursework in data science with communication strategies and project management classes and an internship experience.
Students apply for the program once they have completed 45 credit hours. During their senior year students may take up to three graduate level courses and can apply for official admission into Data Science and Analytics program. Students will be formally accepted into the Graduate School after verification of the completion of bachelor’s degree. The application fee is waived for 4+1 pathway students. Once officially accepted into the graduate program, graduate credit for graduate courses completed with a minimum grade of B will be applied to the graduate course of study.
Graduate courses can not count towards both undergraduate and graduate degree. You must complete all undergradute requirements not counting your graduate level courses.
The 4+1 pathway will save you time and money.
All graduate level courses taken as an undergraduate are paid at the undergraduate rate (compare current rates here). In addition, the $65 application fee for the program in waived.
As of 2020 this equals a tuition savings of $1,649! (in-state tuition)
For a full time student the DSA program takes 3 semesters and 1 summer to complete. By completing 1 semester worth of classes as an undergraduate in the 4+1 program you will graduate with your bachelor's and master's degrees in 5 years.
Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 before enrollment in any graduate course in the 4 + 1 pathway. Students may apply to the 4+1 program before having completed the prerequisite courses (MAT 241 and MAT 126) but must complete these courses before being accepted into the graduate program. Student must have completed a minimum of 45 credit hours before they can apply to the 4+1 pathway.
