Diversity Scholarships

THE GRADUATE DIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Eligibility

Applicants must have earned, by the time of enrollment, a baccalaureate degree granted by an accredited U.S. College or university, or an international university of recognized standing.
Be a U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status.
Must demonstrate that they would contribute to the diversity of the student body in the program for which they are applying, including by having overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to succeed in higher education.
Accepted as matriculated, full-time students (registering for 9 graduate credits each semester) in a graduate program.
Applying for other financial aid programs that may be available to them through other sources. This allows the college to maximize funds available under the fellowship program.

Application:

Complete the online Fellowship Application. Hard copy applications are available in the Graduate School.
Submit three letters of recommendation addressing your academic ability and worthiness of this award. One letter must be from the department chair/coordinator of your master's program.
Submit a brief statement of how you can demonstrate that you will contribute to the diversity of the student body in your program or school, primarily by demonstrating that you have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education.
Submit a statement of professional interests and career goals.
Submit your application, statement, and letters of recommendation to the Graduate School by the appropriate application deadline.

Amount:

Full tuition scholarship (at least 9 graduate credit hours per semester) and/or a stipend during their continuous registration as a master's degree candidate.

Fall semester: July 1

ACM SIGHPC Computational & Data Science Fellowships

Eligibility:

Either currently enrolled in a graduate program or accepted to begin in one no later than October 15
Pursuing a graduate degree – Master’s, PhD, or equivalent – in computational or data science (although the formal name of the program may be somewhat different)
Completed less than half of her/his planned program of study (with preference given to students who are still early in their studies)
A woman and/or a member of a racial/ethnic group that is currently underrepresented in the computing field in the country where the student will earn the degree

Application:

Nomination: submitted by the student’s advisor (or soon-to-be advisor), who will explain how the candidate qualifies for a fellowship
CV and candidate statement: submitted by the student, along with contact information for an endorser
Brief endorsement: submitted by a current or former instructor, project supervisor, or employer who has personal knowledge of the student’s past accomplishments and can speak to the candidate’s suitability

Amount:

$15,000 annually, adjusted depending on the country where the degree will be earned.
